About the Position

Glatfelter Insurance Group is seeking a Software Systems Administrator who will, under general supervision, ensure the control, integrity and accessibility of enterprise application server environment(s). The administrator will also: 

  • Recommend change management procedures regarding the installation and testing of all upgrades and enhancements.  
  • Be responsible for the proper initial installation as well as subsequent installations of updates / patches.  
  • Perform proactive, regular checks of system components for errors and apply necessary corrective action.  
  • Troubleshoot problems and take corrective action on a timely, effective basis.  
  • Develop new hardware recommendations based on application needs and anticipated growth. 

This position is required to be onsite at our Leader Heights, York, PA office. It will require after hours work on a rotating schedule and some weekend work. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Defines and recommends procedures for monitoring and evaluates, diagnoses and establishes work plan to resolve system issues.
  • Assist in troubleshooting application run-time issues.
  • Assist in capacity planning and hardware sizing.
  • Participates, under supervision, in broad information systems assignments requiring originality and ingenuity. 
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality and a professional demeanor and approach in the performance of duties. 
  • Work with I.T., company associates, as well as external business partners to analyze and determine the nature of solutions needed to achieve desired results.
  • Prepare and document application specifications, diagrams and flowcharts as necessary.
  • Maintains a secure systems environment.
  • Communicates regularly with the immediate supervisor concerning:
    1. System status, issues, or problems.
    2. Status of personal goals.
    3. Issues regarding technology and impacts to GIG.
  • Takes advantage of opportunities for professional growth and continued education. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

What We’re Looking For 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in the field of information systems, computer science or other related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of I.T. work experience including systems administration in multi-platform environments.
  • Experience with implementing and administering the ServiceNow platform. 
  • Demonstrated experience with web application server technologies and administration. .NET and Java backend knowledge preferred.
  • Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Must possess basic Microsoft® Windows scripting skills and working knowledge of network protocols (HTTP, TCP/IP, etc.).
  • Understanding of network concepts as well as knowledge of Microsoft® Windows, and/or Linux development environments.
  • Microsoft SQL Management knowledge with the ability to create and modify scripts. 
  • Must be detailed oriented, self-motivated, willing and able to meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and solve problems in a fast-paced corporate environment.
  • Preference for analyzing difficult problems and finding solutions.
  • Must be able to learn, understand, and apply new technologies.
  • Must be able to communicate with a wide variety of people (both internal and external) in an effective manner using reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.
  • Desire to maintain and expand technical and professional knowledge.
