About the Position
Glatfelter Insurance Group is seeking an actuarial professional with industry expertise to assist with pricing Glatfelter business. The Actuarial Analyst will be responsible for working with actuarial, underwriting, and claims leadership in support of a broad array of ratemaking, reserving, and analytics functions. This includes portfolio profitability analyses, large account pricing, loss ratio budgeting, rate monitoring, quarterly reserving, new Program evaluation, claims analytics, actuarial process efficiency, and management reporting. The candidate will partner with other actuaries in implementing best practice analytical techniques and assessing the impact of loss trends and claims emergence, and partner with underwriters in assessing the impact of changes in appetite and portfolio mix.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with underwriting to develop pricing targets that align with underwriting strategies and identify pockets of opportunity for profitable growth as well as profitability-challenged areas.
- Monitor loss/exposure trends & relevant industry/regulatory changes and effectively communicate to underwriters and actuarial management.
- Complete new business Program pricing as needed. Complete regular profitability studies on each Program.
- Support quarterly reserving process and be able to explain reserve development to underwriters and stakeholders.
- Work with finance to provide by program and by line of business loss ratios for the budgeting process and the 3-year strategic direction process.
- Modernize components of the ratemaking, monitoring, and reserving processes through use common programming languages, while maintaining end-user friendly tools.
- Work with the Operations and Product Development to ensure adequate rate levels are achieved in filings.
- Ensure that all account pricing requests are managed and completed in a timely and professional manner, monitoring adherence to appropriate procedures and methodologies. Work with underwriting to price large accounts as needed.
- Conduct training sessions on actuarial topics, account pricing methodologies, loss trends, industry issues impacting account pricing, and updates to pricing models for underwriters and stakeholders.
- Work with leadership to create claims diagnostics, tools to identify trends, and dashboards.
- Analyze the profitability by line of the business and in total.
What We’re Looking For
- B.S. in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or related field.
- Minimum 4 CAS exams
- 3 or more years of experience in commercial lines insurance
- Knowledge of a range of Property, Casualty, and PL lines preferred
- Proficiency in SQL, SAS, Python, R, or other programming languages as well as Microsoft suite of tools (Power BI, Excel, etc.)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Works well both independently and as part of a team
- Strong business and collaboration skills, and responsive to service needs and operational demands
- Effective time management skills
